Safaricom posts strong annual results

May 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Kenya’s largest mobile network operator, Safaricom has announced today its annual results to March 2010 posting an outstanding performance in both financial and operational KPIs.

As a matter of fact, the wireless giant generated up to nearly ksh84 billion (about USD1 billion) of annual turnover, up 19% compared to last year. This increase in revenues combined with a better cost-efficiency in the referred period resulted into a net income jump of 43.8% to ksh15.1 billion (USD180 million).

Safaricom also demonstrated strong operational record in the year to March 2010, as its subscriber base went up by 18.2% to virtually 15.8 million thus, allowing it to maintain leadership over the three other competitors with a market share of 78.3% down from 79% a year ago, as highlighted in the report.

Noticeable also is the huge success registered by both M-PESA and Data services with number of users reaching 9.5 million and 2.64 million respectively. Monthly value of Person-to-Person transaction for March 2010 stood at ksh28.6 billion (USD343 million) which illustrates how well the mobile money services are doing.

Finally, it is important to mention that Safaricom reported a blended Arpu ksh459 (USD5.5) a 3.4% less than its level in 2009 and an annual churn rate of 18.2% down from 24.3% during the same period.
