May 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Founded in 2007, Yota, one of the world’s top Wimax operators with footprint in 5 Russian cities -including Moscow and St Petersburg- as well as in neighbouring Belarus, Peru and Nicaragua, has announced its decision to develop Long-Term Evolution (LTE) for forthcoming rollouts.

In the announcement that came as a serious blow to competing standard Wimax, the Russian wireless operator stated: “The world’s biggest operators and device makers such as Nokia and Samsung have chosen the LTE standard. Following the global trend, we are seeking to give our clients the best solutions,“

As a result, Yota plans to launch LTE in 5 cities and the other ten will be following in 2011 for a total investment estimated up to $2 billion. It has already signed contracts for 1,000 LTE base stations delivery with unnamed vendors.

As Yota made its position clearer, now all eyes are on US Clearwire, the Wimax champion which in last March said could use LTE in the future.
