By: Jennie Gandhi His mastery is horse riding, swordsmanship, hunting, and polo was also commendable. Once when Akbar went for hunting, he with some of his courtiers lost his way in the forest. Searching for the way they came at a junction where they saw a young boy. This young boy was the clever and generous Birbal who is one of the most popular folklore in the Indian history. King Akbar asked Birbal that which road goes to Agra. Birbal stared at Akbar and smiled. He gave a humorous reply that no road goes anywhere because roads don’t move only people move. Birbal giggled delightedly at his own joke. At first Akbar was silent hearing this reply and all his courtiers were afraid thinking that he may become violent. But to everyone’s surprise Akbar too laughed at the joke. Infact he was impressed by the kind of reply Birbal gave. Akbar with all dignity praised the young boy and gifted him his emerald ring. He also asked Birbal to come to his court where courageous, smart, and intelligent people are always required. After that Birbal showed them the way and they rode off. This sudden meeting in the forest was remarkable for both Akbar and Birbal. From here history started transforming and became more glorious. Birbal did go to the court and there he was appointed for performing administrative and military duties. With all dedication and bravery, Birbal performed his duties and gradually carved a place in Akbar’s heart. The Emperor started viewing him as one of his best companions and then the friendship was sealed with selfless love, subtle humor, and endless wisdom. This union of Akbar and Birbal has come a long way in the form of stories, tales, and fables that are an essential part of our rich Indian culture. # # # Jennie Gandhi has a passion for writing and writes on diverse topics including fashion, beauty, automotive, educational, motivational and even technical.
