April 27, 2010 - PRLog -- WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIF.--Parents seeking creative ways to keep their teenagers active this summer can look to the Triunfo YMCA for a variety of summer camps and programs.

The Triunfo YMCA offers two "away" camps. The first, Camp Fox, is located on Catalina Island. Kids in grades sixth through 12 take part in kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, archery, high and low rope challenges, swimming, hiking and nightly campfires. The camp runs from July 4 through July 10 and the cost is $555.

At Camp Edwards in Big Bear, campers in third through eighth grades spend time canoeing, swimming, low rope climbing and hiking. For teens in grades 9 and 10 a counselor-in-training (CIT) opportunity awaits. "Teens learn how to work with younger kids and take on more adult-like responsibilities," says Veronica Rodarte, Triunfo YMCA program director. "It's also a time to meet new friends, have a fun and enjoy a rewarding camp experience." Camp dates are August 2 through 6. The cost for campers is $310 and $264 for CIT participants.

"Teen Scene" is a day camp that begins June 21 and runs weekly through August 20. For campers entering sixth through eighth grades, it offers something new each day of the week. Every week includes two beach days, two pool days, a mini trip such as to Laser Tag or skating, and a major fieldtrip including Magic Mountain, Disneyland and Third Street Promenade. The cost is $210 per week per camper.

Learning water safety skills is a key component of the Junior Lifeguard summer program. Designed for youngsters nine to 15 years old, the program teaches participants how to be aware and responsible in and around the pool. Junior lifeguarders gain practical knowledge through hands-on experience as they work with YMCA lifeguards. The summer-long program begins June 21 and costs $130.

Sign-ups are currently underway for these and other Triunfo YMCA summer programs. For more information, contact the Triunfo YMCA at 818-707-9622 or go to www.sevymca.org.
