Type O Negative Front Man Peter Steele Reported Dead, Heart Failure

April 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Lead singer, bassist and songwriter for goth metal/industrial group  Type O Negative, musician Peter Steele is reported to have died of heart failure yesterday, on April 14. He would be 48 years old.

Steele was a majestic specimen of the macabre, with a ghoulish, commanding 6'7" presence, and a voice so deep and disquieting that its tones seemed to echo from the very precipice of Hell. In spite of what's been publicized as serious depression and tendencies toward self-deprecating remarks, Steele was sinisterly handsome, and infamously posed nude for Playgirl in 1995.

Buzzingstock.net reported that in a 2007 interview with Decibel magazine, Steele had begun tackling theological concepts regarding his mortality, “There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, and I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realize my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what’s after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it’s a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also can’t believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Teresa.”
