Innovative Medical Products Enhances De Mayo Knee Positioner®, Making It Lighter

April 7, 2010 - PRLog -- PLAINVILLE, Conn. – Innovative Medical Products, a global leader in patient positioning, has announced enhancements to the De Mayo Knee Positioner® making it lighter. The positioner’s lighter weight makes it easier for operating room personnel to place and manipulate the positioner on the OR table and for hospital personnel to transport and insert the equipment into a sterilizer, via a new sterilizing/storage case.

“We had two aims in mind when we engineered improvements to the De Mayo Knee Positioner®,” said James Bailey, IMP president. “One was to ensure the patented features of the current design with a single locking lever for precise control of flexion, extension, tilt, and rotation. The other was to make things easier for OR and hospital personnel when handling the positioner, especially utilizing a sterilizing/storage case.”

The design of the De Mayo Knee Positioner® base has been re-engineered from multiple plates to a one-piece base that is three pounds lighter than the earlier version.  To enhance the carriage holding power on the rail, IMP has added a thumb screw device increasing the locking power to further prevent any slippage while using the De Mayo Universal Distractor™. The thumb screw brake offers an advantage for the surgeon to lock flexion/extension while allowing freedom of rotation of the knee.

The new De Mayo Universal Distractor™, an accessory device to the patented De Mayo Knee Positioner®, allows the surgeon to achieve a finite control of the device to distract the femur from the tibia outside the surgical site, but within the sterile field.  Every new and improved knee positioner is now designed with a bracket on the back of the positioner’s boot allowing for an easy upgrade to incorporate the De Mayo Universal Distractor™ with the De Mayo Knee Positioner®.
