PHP (Pre-Hypertext Processor) is a server side scripting language, originally designed for producing dynamic web pages. Along with server-side scripting, PHP can also be used from a command line interface. PHP is available free (as open source) to build, customize and use.

PHP is the most popular server side scripting language used with Apache (web server) and Linux (any flavor of Linux Operating System) along with MySQL (database).
Using PHP, one can build Internet applications / Web applications that have the features and functionality of traditional desktop applications.
