While most therpaies focus on treating the muscles with tension and/or pain, Kim Munro gets to the root of pain or injury by addressing muscle weakness rather than muscle tightness.

April 2, 2010 - PRLog -- "I don't believe that you have to give up your tennis league or week-end basketball fun with the boys just because you're getting older, your back hurts, and you don't think your body can take it anymore," says Kim Munroe, a Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) Specialist. "This kind of aging does not have to be a fact of life and there's no reason you have to be in pain every time you get in or out of a car because you're over 75. "

Rick Sieger, a Fenton dermatologist, says Kim is a miracle worker after he tried physical therapy, deep-muscle massage, and chiropractic help. He was seriously considering surgery for his back when he was recommended to Munro. "The treatment works immediately as she tests weak muscles by putting resistance on them, waking them up from a deep sleep, allowing all muscles to work together, rather than others have to compensate," says Sieger who recommends his own employees to Munro.

Munro focuses on correcting muscle weakness. Developed by Greg Roskopf of Colorado, Kim moved her MAT program to Adam Square on Adams Road in Birmingham, Michigan on April 1. Her many marathon running clients plan to follow Munro from Troy to Birmingham since she has been so instrumental in helping them maintain their competitive form.

"I also create more balance, especially for the elderly so they don't fall," she says. "I give them the stability they've been looking for and introduce them to isometric exercises to maintain their strength training at home."

Munro has been certified since June 2003 having previously received her associate degree in Applied Health Science and Medical Terminology from Oakland Community College, Michigan. She has built up an impressive clientele from her Troy office during the last 3 ½ years before expanding it to Birmingham.

"Typically the pain we experience as we age is from an accumulation of stresses on your body, especially if you are doing the same thing repeatedly like baseball pitching," says Munro.  "When the muscles and joints are overstressed the result is pain.  The MAT program corrects the muscular imbalances which reduces the stress on joints and tissues.

Munro usually works with each patient for one hour. The offices at Adams Square are on the lower level, and there is wheelchair access with handicap parking.  725 S. Adams Rd. Suite L146  Birmingham 48009
