American Heritage Brands Launches World's First Sneakers

March 29, 2010 - PRLog -- New York, NY. American Heritage Brands (AHB), the owners of extraordinary marks that celebrate Yesterday Once More, revives Colchester Rubber Co. - The World’s First Sneakers.

Colchester Rubber Co. was founded in 1888 by George Watkinson. The company produced high end rubber shoes for men and women that have since been lost to history, but what the company did create 118 years ago endures to this day, and thrives. The original high top canvas sneaker. The sneaker was made especially for a gym teacher promoting a new game he recently invented.

The year was 1892, the gym teacher was Dr. James Naismith, the game was basketball....and the sneaker was Colchester Rubber Co. Watkinson created a shoe by marrying ankle high durable canvas with a slab of rubber designed to grip wooden gymnasium floors - what the world knows today as the sneaker. Many of Colchester Rubber Co.’s innovations including a rubber toe guard and double-stitched reinforced lace bed became industry standards.

American Heritage Brands is bringing back this vintage style as a classic American brand. The limited Alpha model - the genuine replica of the original 1892 sneakers - is available now at http://www.ColchesterRubberCo.com  with more colors, materials and styles coming Summer 2010.

American Heritage Brands has also signed a multi-year agreement with RichLife Ltd, one of the world's leading shoe manufacturers with offices all over the world, for co-operative venture for design, manufacturing and marketing. The deal is for Colchester Rubber Co. shoes only and additional deals will be worked out for the licensing of apparel under the Colchester Rubber Co. brand.
