March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- When your money is involved a key ingredigent to your success is certainly your accountant. Accounting is certainly an important function in everyones personal business.

Now that we have established the benefits of an accountant, what are the steps required to find that accountant.

In order to find an accountant it is important to set out a checklist of what you are looking for from your accountant. Compile your checklist then call a few firms with your questions.

We have set out 6 importance questions to ask your accountant:

Question 1 -  What qualifications and accreditation do they have?

This may suprise some people but anybody can be called an accountant, so make sure they are accredited.

Question 2 – Do they have any present clients that you can chat too?

Current clients should be able to provide a great reference point to the quality of the firm you are looking to deal wiht. You should be finding out from the clients, what results have they achieved, do they offer suggestions, when you have questions how quickly do they respond, would they see them as good value for money and how long have been with them for. Keep in mind though; you are only likely to get the names of friendly Clients! The employment history of the person you are dealing with and how long they have been working for this particular accounting firm for.

Ensure that you meet with the accountant that will be handling your business. Having a solid relationship with your accountant is crucial, and make sure that you have constant contact with them.  You should have your accountant active before the end of the tax year so that you can make any relevant investments prior to the tax year closing

Question 4 – Is it okay to come and have a look at the offices?

Visiting the office will you determine the quality, and the scope of the accountant practice. Accounting firms conducting business from serviced offices or from run-down premises should be treated with caution. If the offices seem lavish always make sure that you see their fees first! You are better off dealing with an accountant from an accounting firm as opposed to working with an accountant that works from home.

Question 5- How long have they been in business for?

It is always advisable unless your finances are not complicated then select an accountant that is an expert. When it comes down to it, don't just take their word for it; ensure that you are provided with evidence. Always ensure that you check how long the accounting firm has been in business for.

Question 7- What are the main benefits of working with your organisation?

Ask the accountant straight out, why should I use your firm. The answer from your accountant as to why to use them should be very compelling as to why their accouting firm should be used.
