| Contest Winner's Watch Design Combines Analog and DigitalCadence Watch Company to Distribute the Josh Chadwick Watch This Fall
By: The Cadence Watch Company Chadwick is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology's graphic design program. He has worked at a leading consumer packaging company on projects for some of the world’s most admired brands in the consumer electronics, health care, and home and garden. He is also pursuing a masters degree in industrial design at Philadelphia's University of the Arts. In his designer statement Chadwick wrote, "I believe the best inspiration for good design is people. It is important to remember that we design more than just objects, but experiences for people. We have the ability to create systems and user experiences that can have a profound impact on the world and create genuine emotional responses. It is this mentality that I'd like to integrate into all of my projects and guide my direction as a designer." Cadence organized this contest with the help of the popular Design Philadelphia event. Design Philadelphia spotlights all things design - from architecture to interior design, fashion to product design, textile to graphic design. For seven days each October, visitors can explore exhibitions, workshops, studio tours, lectures, runway shows, special events and product roll-outs that inspire, engage, excite and delight. In 2009 Design Philadelphia featured 125 events and 500 designers, making it the nation's largest celebration of design. "Before Cadence Collective, you had to be a Philip Stark or an Ed Hardy to have your watch produced." The Cadence Watch Company designs, produces and distributes branded performance and lifestyle watches. The company started in 2001 by making a patented stroke rate monitor for rowing. Cadence's Oarsman chronographs represent a performance lifestyle inspired by the rowing heritage. In 2009 Cadence started it's Cadence Collective program that empowers designers to create unique watches. Cadence Collective's next design contest, called Collective Geek, is on the the theme of geek computer culture. Cadence expects to start selling the Josh Chadwick's watches in September 2010.
