| Executive Protection Fitness - Tactical ProgramsTactical fitness (TACFIT) for executive protection (EP) should cover technical, tactical and physical fitness.
By: Joe Green Detail Leaders (DLs) should recognize that the effectiveness of the members of the executive protection unit (EPU) depends upon their physical condition. If things go south, the EPU team members need to be able to react, move, shoot and communicate effectively. This takes strength, coordination, stamina and agility. The client's life could be dependent upon the EPUs TACFIT. EP assignment are often grueling and places high physical demands upon the EPU members, providing advance work, EP coverage and motorcade movements, working many hours without much hours of sleep. Leading experts agree that a close relationship exists between TACFIT and achieving extreme levels of performance. Weakness, physical exhaustion and lack of stamina are all associated with poor performance levels. EP agents should be mentally alert and physically fit. The program should utilize uncomplicated methods to build success-producing muscle, movement skills and mobility. The foundation upon which your TACFIT program is built upon should include endurance to avoid becoming physically and mentally exhausted, strength for emergency and routine EP activities, coordination for efficient and purposeful protective coverage efforts, as well as flexibility, speed and joint mobility. Start an in service TACFIT program for your EPU, it should have a moderate amount of TACFIT exercises and increase gradually and steadily. Develop a detailed TACFIT lesson plan to maintain your EPUs physical fitness at a high level. A high level of TACFIT is of greatest importance for the protection of your clients and the well-being of your team. Push yourself and your EPU to reach new levels of physical conditioning. Make a plan and take action, keep safe. Joe Green is a professional fitness trainer for military and police units throughout Southeast Asia, as well as a hand-to-hand combat instructor.
