Feb. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Hundreds of Year 11 students and their parents attended careers fairs held across Wolverhampton.  The Kings School, Coppice Performing Arts School, and South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy all hosted careers events aimed at their final year students.

The fairs were organised by Bilston Connexions Personal Advisers, to provide the Year 11 students with first-hand, impartial, educational and employment advice.  The students benefited from direct advice given by learning institutions, training providers and employers on which options to take for their chosen careers paths.  Additionally, students who were unsure of what they wanted to do had the opportunity to meet and discuss their future options with many of the exhibitors at the fairs.

The fairs were designed specifically for students who will be taking their GCSEs in 2010 and will be faced with choosing whether to continue in education or to go into training or employment.

Connexions information, advice and guidance services for 13 to 19-year-olds in Wolverhampton are delivered by Prospects, one of the UK’s leading providers of education, training and guidance services.

Preparing the young people with necessary tools enables them to make informed decisions and the fairs gained overwhelming praise from students, parents and exhibitors from the students.

A 15 year old, Kings School student said: “I spoke to KicFM who informed me about work experience and training in digital and analogue broadcasting, podcasting, editing, presenting and producing. I then spoke to Stourbridge College who told me about their ICT courses and possible progression for my future. South Staffordshire College were also very helpful and offer a good range of IT based courses. Now I am looking at IT as a possible route”

Another 16 year old student, from the Coppice Performing Arts School also added; “I spoke to Peter Pyne Training about Beauty Therapy, and  then to the Academy 6th form who advised me on  courses and on  the advantages of staying on to 6th form. I also spoke to the NHS Trust.”

.;
Bilston based Connexions Personal Adviser, Ian Cooper, said “I think it is positive and encouraging to see schools providing such an opportunity for students to receive, impartial IAG from providers and institutions.”
