Paul Lawrence Vann Delivers Empowering Speech at OPM Dr. King Day Event in Washington, DC

Jan. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- On Janauary 13, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management hosted a stellar tribute in conjunction with the Combined Federal Campaign honoring the Legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The theme of the event was "Recognizing the Compassion and Power of the Dream." John Berry, Director of the U.S. OPM made magnificent remarks about the life of Dr. King and why we should honor his legacy. Mr. Berry read Paul Lawrence Vann's bio and introduced him.

Vann stated, "Dr. King was a man of power, who knew his calling from a very young age." In fact, Dr. King not only believed in his dream, he also put his dream into motion by leading America out of segregaton to equality. Dr. king's power was in the form of an innate ability to mobilize people of all races and ethnicities to seek social justice and the truth to make America better for all her citizens.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was also a a man of compassion. Compassion is defined as sympathetic consciousness of others distress, together with a desire to alleviate it. "Given today's high unemployment rate, mortgage foreclosures, wage disparities, disproportionate number of African-Americans in prison as opposed to college dorms, compassion is need in today's society," Vann stated.

Last but not least Vann stated, "The King Day holiday is a day on,  not a day off." Vann encouraged audience members to get involved in local, state and federal programs to make a difference in communities." Service is what Dr. King was all about and we should all take a lesson from the drum major for peace.

People came away from the OPM, King Day celebration having a greater awareness of the Compassion and Power of the Dream. Paul Lawrence Vann is prepared to deliver speeches in February in support of Black History Month.
