Jan. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- LACEY, Wash. – Univera Serve First, a public charity dedicated to assisting the nutritional needs of the hungry and those at risk, has answered the call for help in Haiti after a massive earthquake caused widespread devastation in the country this week. Serve First  announced today that it has contributed $5,000 to the International Red Cross in support of its ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. Serve First benefits from the charitable efforts on the part of Univera, Inc., a company specializing in the development and distribution of scientifically validated natural health products. In response to this, Univera’s Corporate parent, ECONET, Inc., is matching that contribution with an additional $5,000.

“Serve First was set up as a way for members of the Univera community to give back financially to their communities, whether it was at the local, national, or even international levels,” Univera CEO Regan Miles said. “The heart-wrenching images coming to us from Haiti this week reminded us that we are all a part of one international community. We felt their suffering, and it was important for us to do something to help.”

Univera Serve First’s ongoing partnership with Vitamin Angels (www.vitaminangels.org), a non-profit organization that works around the world to provide vital nutrition to those in need worldwide, also saw to it that donations made to Serve First were used to help fund about 1 million tablets of multivitamins that have already been delivered to Haiti through Hope for Haiti. While Vitamin Angels does not work primarily as a disaster relief agency, donations they’ve received through Serve First are helping the group work to expand services in Haiti as the country begins to rebuild.

“We are so grateful to Univera’s Associates, Customers, and employees who have given so generously to our organization over the years,” Univera CEO of International Rich Razgaitis said. “It really is that extra $10, $20, or $25 that makes all the difference when it comes to humanitarian efforts such as this.”

As the death toll continues to mount and help is direly needed in Haiti, we urge both those within and outside the Univera community to continue to give to the relief efforts through the International Red Cross  at www.icrc.org.
