Offer in Compromise is an Option – CPA in Detroit Explains Income Tax Problems and Solutions

Few are aware of the several options available to settle back tax debt owed to the IRS

Jan. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Troy, MI – Offer in Compromise, settling back tax debt, income tax problems, interest and penalties, IRS trouble, IRS debt relief and payroll tax debt are all in a day’s work for Markwei Boye, CPA and income tax consultant.

Markwei Boye has helped thousands of taxpayers settle their income tax debt and get on with their lives.  “I owed the IRS nearly a quarter million dollars, due to business failure,” said Mark Maupin.  “Thanks to Markwei, I was able to settle the debt and pay only $30,000, through the Offer and Compromise program.”

There are many reasons people find themselves owing the IRS, including loss of income, divorce, injury or medical problems.  Several options are available to help settle the amount of back taxes owed to the IRS.  “Do not attempt to negotiate a settlement on your own,” said Boye.  “Work with an income tax consultant, attorney or firm that you can trust to resolve your income tax problems.”

Markwei will be speaking to a group of business owners at a club that meets the 1st Thursday of each month in Detroit.  He will answer questions on resolving income tax issues and cover the following topics:

Offer in Compromise:  Taxpayers who meet certain requirements and are able to show financial hardship can negotiate and settle their back tax debt at a reduced amount.  The process is complicated; people should be represented by a qualified income tax professional.

Payment Arrangements:  In the event you do not qualify for Offer in Compromise, the IRS can agree to an installment agreement.  Some people qualify for a partial payment agreement where they make smaller payments and the total amount paid is less than the original tax liability.

Penalty Abatement:  Some people qualify to have the penalties waived and just pay the back taxes and interest.

No-collection Status:  Taxpayers who are on a fixed or limited income can qualify to be placed in a “currently not collectible” status.  The IRS will cease their efforts to collect from you for a determined period of time.  They will reevaluate your file from time to time to see if there have been any changes in your ability to pay.  Eventually, the statute of limitations expires and they can no longer collect the debt.

Markwei Boye recommends professional representation for individuals and business owners who are in trouble with the IRS.  “The IRS expects you to pay your tax liability in full if you have the ability to do so,” said Boye.  “Many taxpayers are forced to take out a second mortgage, sell assets or borrow from retirement savings to pay their back taxes.  Our team of income tax professionals will analyze your situation and help you decide the best solution to your income tax problems.”
