I stopped raising and releasing pen-raised quail, because they grew up to be Dick Cheney Birds. We built pens, raised the chicks, and even introduced the idea to schools, outdoor education programs, and land managers. But when I saw the birds in action, I felt that they more like pets than wild animals. But something was about to happen that changed my mind.
