New York Mets GM Omar Minaya's Big Mess

Despite a need for a Top 2 pitcher, the Mets and Minaya have signed yet another offensive bat.

Dec. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY -- Everyone loves to throw around two sports adages that (sarcasm alert) never get old. The first is that "defense wins championships". The second is that good pitching beats good hitting every time. If the 2010 New York Mets want to win a pennant, they´ll have to prove both those adages very, very wrong.

Omar Minaya´s off-season priorities
this year (according to everyone but Omar) has been to shore up the bullpen, and add an arm or two to the rotation. While the Mets have some question marks on offense, specifically, in right field with Jeff Francoeur, and at first base with Daniel Murphy; offense was clearly not the problem with this team.

Assuming that everyone was going to be healthy going into 2010, the Mets had one of the best all around offensive centerfielders in the game in Carlos Beltran, one of the best slugging third basemen in the game in David Wright, one of the top three offensive shortstops in the game in Jose Reyes, and a second baseman who may have a lead glove, but hit .302 with 20 steals in 2009. Even Jeff Francoeur appeared to have righted his ship once he was dealt to Gotham. In an almost even split, Francoeur went from hitting .250 with five home runs, and 19 extra base hits total in Atlanta, to hitting .311 with 10 home runs, and 32 total extra base hits in New York.
