Dec. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- (New York, NY) -- ‘Moon Beat’ the award-winning documentary film which recalls Apollo XI and the 1960’s space race and features NASA officials and top news reporters, including several prominent New York journalists, has been selected into the upcoming NewFilmmakers NY Winter Festival. The film will have an evening preview screening on Tuesday Jan 5th, at the Anthology Film Archives.

Moon Beat is a breakthrough film that looks at the epic July '69 flight of Apollo XI and showcases the reporters who covered NASA in the run-up to the first manned lunar landing. Journalists share their views about its significance and the current state of the U.S. Space program – on this year’s 40th anniversary.

“Moon Beat is a documentary about the many stories of Apollo XI and the space race of the 1960s, as told by NASA officials and the news reporters who saw it all and covered it all,” said Kevin Stirling, director/producer of the film. “In making this documentary, I felt, who better to reflect on Apollo XI than the news reporters who covered it,” said Stirling who recently appeared on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal to discuss the film.

The documentary revisits President John F. Kennedy’s call to go to the moon and the onset of the space race with the Soviet Union, leading to the 1969 flight of Apollo XI. It features interviews with many of the top news reporters who covered and wrote about the U.S. space program for many years including: John Noble Wilford, New York Times, Mark Bloom, New York Daily News, Henry S. F. Cooper, Jr., The New Yorker, Leon Jaroff, TIME Magazine, Al Neuharth, Founder, USA Today and Joe Morgenstern, Film Critic, The Wall Street Journal and many others.

The award-winning film also features commentary with senior NASA officials including Hugh W. Harris, former Director of NASA Public Affairs and Jack King (Voice of Apollo) who is best remembered for his exhilarating Apollo launch countdowns by millions of Apollo enthusiasts around the world.

Moon Beat won a 2009 Special Jury Remi Award at the 42nd Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival. WorldFest-Houston is one of the oldest and largest film & video competitions in the world.
