Vote Earth! Support WWF’s call for a strong Climate Deal

WWF India is bringing on board passionate youth from across the city to participate in a Candlelight Vigil at the Constitution Club on Rafi Marg, in Delhi at 17:00.

Dec. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- World leaders are gathering at the on-going Copenhagen Climate Summit, the citizens are watching. The people of the world want a real deal in Copenhagen. Never before has an issue gathered so much world attention, public push and political involvement all together, like the issue of climate change.

WWF India is bringing on board passionate youth from across the city to participate in a Candlelight Vigil at the Constitution Club on Rafi Marg, in Delhi at 17:00. Over 200 school children, college students, volunteers and hundreds of people will join this vigil to express their solidarity towards action against climate change. The eclectic fusion band, ‘Advaita’ will also ring out in support for the cause.  This is symbolic of the attempts made by civil society to call for a real deal at Copenhagen as world leaders meet to decide our planet’s future.

What makes this event unique is that it will be held in conjunction to the ‘Earth Hour Hopenhagen’ taking place in Copenhagen where the whole city will switch off their lights for an hour.

Among the largest public awareness initiatives on global warming, Vote Earth, is a worldwide call to action by individuals, communities and corporations to create a groundswell of support for climate change.

Climate change and global warming takes centre stage as the world is looking up to Copenhagen, where the world leaders are meeting to find a solution to save the planet from climate catastrophe and to ensure that the summit reaches a FAB (Fair, Ambitious and Binding) deal that will keep global temperatures as far below 2 degrees increase as possible and address the adaptation need of countries impacted.

Ravi Singh, CEO WWF India,is attending the summit in Copenhagen and says that
“The Copenhagen climate meetings point towards a changing world order. Nve before has an issue got so much public attention and political will. We hope that while the world is watching, our leaders are able to come out to a solution to the problem of climate change. This vigil is a small step of our support and a large leap towards engaging the youth of tomorrow who will inherit this planet from us”,
