Dec. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Dave Tibbetts, President of Atlanta Decking and Georgia Front Porch of Cumming, GA, has created a new division, Home For Life Remodeling. The company specializes in internal and external home modifications for seniors and people with limited mobility.

According to a survey conducted by the AARP, nearly 90% of seniors want to “age in place” (stay in their homes). About 1/3 of adults over the age of 65 fall each year and nearly 57% of the falls occur indoors. Additionally, 21% of seniors suffer from arthritis, 17% from a respiratory challenge,  5% have orthopedic issues (particularly hip or knee) and 6% suffer from a stroke or progressive disease, such as MS or Alzheimer’s. Catastrophic events, such as a work-related injury or car accident, can dramatically limit physical abilities. Home modifications such as access ramps, grab bars, walk-in showers, automatic doors and stair lifts help reduce accidents, provide more safety  and increase mobility and peace of mind.

“There are very few Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists (CAPS) remodelers in the metro Atlanta area,” says Dave Tibbetts. “We’ve been in in the remodeling business for over 22 years and have seen a great need for helping seniors stay in their homes. We assess their needs and limitations—then help implement home modifications that will help them live safely, functionally, independently and comfortably in the environment their most comfortable in. We also help people with disabilities modify their homes — with their own set of challenges — ultimately improving their quality of life. I don’t think there’s a more rewarding business than what we’re able to do for these people and their families.”

Home for Life Remodeling works directly with consumers, area agencies and healthcare professionals—including case workers, discharge planners and in-home nurse practitioners. Mallory Harwood, one of Home for Life’s mobility consultants, also has over 25 years experience as a certified recreational therapist and conducts free in-home safety assessments. “I work with seniors and other customers with health conditions, sensory or movement impairments and cognitive disorders. I meet with them in their homes, assess their needs, take measurements, notes, photos and come back to them with a plan to help them increase their independence, promote health, prevent injury and improve their quality of life”.

“Our team works works hard to cause minimal disruption, cleans up every day  and usually ends up becoming great friends with our customers. Clients like to tell us how they’re amazed at our creative solutions and how they have dramatically helped improve their daily routine”.

“Our home was becoming a difficult challenge to Emilie due to her disability,” says Home for Life Remodeling customer, Barb Angle of Forsyth County. “Their mobility consultants met with us and helped create a plan to help Emilie get around much easier. They even worked with our physical therapist and insurance company on the best way to proceed. We are really happy with the result and their team was just great to work with!”
