FROM CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH FLORIDA

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –Miller Construction Company’s project team members received top honors in the 2009 Construction Association of South Florida  (CASF) Craftsmanship Awards, as the WPLG Local 10 Broadcast Facility project in Pembroke Park was named the award winner for Overall Craftsmanship Performed on a Commercial Project.

Craftsmen on Miller projects received 23 of the 60 awards CASF presented at its awards ceremony in November.  In addition to the overall award, 12 subcontractors for Miller were individually honored for their work on the WPLG Local 10 facility.  Craftsmen on two other Miller projects – the RoboVault Storage facility in Fort Lauderdale and the Omni office renovation in Miami – received an additional 10 Craftsmanship Awards.

The CASF Craftsmanship Awards are an annual tradition that began in 1958, and nominations are submitted by employers, contractors, engineers, architects and developers.  Through the years, craftsmen on Miller Construction Company project teams have won more than 300 of the awards – more than any other general contractor.

WPLG Local 10 Broadcast Facility – South Florida’s first “from the ground up” all-digital, high-definition (HD) broadcast facility includes two studios and a satellite tower.  The overall and many individual CASF awards for craftsmanship on the 71,600-square-foot facility reflect the technological expertise and meticulous finish work of Miller’s veteran construction team.

RoboVault – the first high-tech robotic storage facility of its kind in the world,
RoboVault features automated storage retrieval, biometric recognition and private access with 24/7 security monitoring.  Developed by Marvin Chaney, RoboVault was designed and built to resist up to Category 5 hurricanes and equipped with back-up power generation.

Omni renovation – Miller’s $43-million renovation project for developer Argent Ventures transformed 320,000 square feet of former retail space at the 1970s-era Omni International Mall into The Omni Offices, a state-of-the-art, Class A office address.
