Tash’s Control Freek One Of The Most Illegally Downloaded LPs!

Legendary Emcee Talks: Illegal Downloader Ordered to Pay up to $675,000 in Infringements to Record Labels.

Sept. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- TASH aka Catastrophe is one-third of Tha Liks, better known as Tha Alkaholiks, a pioneering hip hop group that originated in the early 90’s.  Since then Tha Liks have spawned classic LPs such as 21 & Over, Coast II Coast, Likwidation, XO Experience, and Firewater.  TASH’s last solo venture Rap Life, released in 1999 by Sony/Loud Records, was critically acclaimed and sprinkled with special appearances by Snoop Dogg, Outkast and Cypress Hills.  Nearly ten years later TASH came back with his sophomore solo project Control Freek, released on Amalgam Digital.  But before Control Freek had a chance to hit the shelves it was leaked online and had quickly become one of the top illegally downloaded LPs.

“It was crazy because I kept getting positive feedback before we were even close to dropping the LP!  I’d say thanks but how did you hear it? “ TASH laughs.  “Aren’t you upset that the downloads won’t be reflected in the sales and charts?” I ask.  “On one hand of course!  I’m not seeing any of that money, but really it’s a compliment”, says TASH.  My main objective with this album was to let EVERYONE hear what’s been pent up inside of me for the last 10 years, and by now everybody has!”

TASH may be a good sport about illegal downloads, but the Recording Industry of America is most definitely not!  According to the Boston Globe on July 30, 2009 BU grad student Joel Tenenbaum was ordered to pay four record labels $675,000 for illegally downloading and distributing them over the KaZaA peer-to-peer network, which panned out to the tune of $22,500 for each infringement!  Tenenbaum is only the second of approximately 18,000 individuals targeted by the labels to have gone to trial, and the second to lose.

So I ask TASH what he intends to do about the illegal downloads?  “What can I do?  Each time the label demands that the file-sharing site removes the LP another pops up by a different user.  It’s an uphill battle.  The true fans will still buy the hard copies and the legal downloads instead of the bootlegs!  Come to the shows, buy the merchandise, spread the word!  I’m already in the studio working on the next project, this time we might have to record it on a special patented microchip!” TASH jokes.

For the loyal fans hard copies of Control Freek can be found in stores like Best Buy, independent shops across the country, and online stores like UGHH.com.  Digital copies can be purchased at Amalgamdigital.com or iTunes.  TASH’s latest video New Bikini can be “legally” viewed for free at myspace.com/TASH.
