![]() A Colourful Blast From the Past (And Present) Now Available on Anna Scholz Web ShopThe latest instalment of pieces to the Anna Scholz web shop for plus size fashions gives a mega blast of colour to the Autumn-Winter 09 season -- often with a playful wink at past styles but always with an eye fixed on forward fashion.
By: Anna Scholz Ltd Anna Scholz’s aptly titled “Wonderland” Sexy reds heat up the season in the form of Anna’s crepe jersey waterfall frill dress and frill trench coat. Sunshine yellow lilies and rainbow-striped flowers streak boldly across sumptuous black silk. Rich jewel tones saturate the ripple print kaftan top and Anna’s funky paisley print is a brilliant mix of understated neutral colours mixed with bright pink, red and purple. Candy pink knitwear pieces with heart patterns and embellishments vibe jauntily with a coat in the new brown and pink version of Anna’s Pac-Man print. RETRO FOR TODAY One of Anna’s trademarks is her incorporation of vintage styles and prints into her designs. Though she loves to play with vintage elements, Anna always maintains a look which is sleek and modern. Her latest Wonderland collection is no exception with its free interchange between past and present, tradition and innovation. Anna often employs unusual colour palettes or embellishments to update a retro-flavoured style or print. For example, the bright yellow of the lily print and the fanciful lollipop colours of the rainbow striped flower print translate as urbane and edgy against a black silk ground. Her Pac-Man print coat in pink and brown puts a grown-up spin on the current rage for computer graphic patterns while also referencing silhouettes from the 50s and 60s. Similarly, flirty frills give Anna’s latest trench coats an updated look that’s part Casablanca, part Carrie Bradshaw. Customers love the dash of femininity that the frill trim brings to this sturdy classic The paisley print on silk radiates playfulness and sophistication through a fresh, modern colour palette of brights mixed with of-the-moment neutral tones. Likewise, the nude and plum palette of the zebra stripes on silk georgette is an on-trend and unexpected departure from the usual animal prints. Silver sequin embellishments are a cool colour contrast with the print. BEAUTIFUL ILLUSIONS As ever, these new web shop styles feature all of the figure-flattering design “tricks” for which Anna Scholz is loved. With her smokin’ red waterfall frill dress, a double row of crepe jersey frills cascades down the front of the dress to the hem, giving the dress movement and slenderizing the figure by drawing the eyes in to the centre of the body. The yoke of the jewel-toned ripple print kaftan forms a front panel which has a slimming effect as it tapers down to the empire line. A tie-back sash whittles inches off the midriff and flatters the bust. Anna’s wrap dresses are renowned for their ease and sex appeal. Her latest designs in the paisley and lily prints feature gentle gathers at the shoulder and empire line, elegant wide collars and long sashes which nip the figure in. Three-quarter- And last but not least, the trimming effect of a smartly belted trench coat is undeniable. Anna’s frill trench and frill babydoll coat are feminine and flattering. THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME Anna Scholz has long maintained that plus size women are a virtually ignored customer base. She has devoted her life to creating clothes that are stylish, edgy, sometimes a statement and always flattering. Anna’s design ethos is to think about style and direction first and then size the garment for the fuller figure. She wears her own designs year round. In a July interview in The Daily Telegraph, Scholz told reporter Bronwyn Cosgrave, “I get hundreds of e-mails from women thanking me because they have finally found nice clothes. If you get them out of their shell [plus size women] are extremely grateful.” The advice she always gives curvy women, says Anna, is to experiment and try different shapes and colours. “Get out of a rut,” she encourages customers. “See what suits you. Have fun with fashion.” From a business perspective, too, maintains Scholz, if the plus size woman receives a positive, supportive shopping experience, she can become a loyal long-term customer. With 65 stores worldwide carrying her collection and numerous requests for print interviews and TV appearances, Scholz’s creative philosophies and her business strategies are serving her well. So, take a walk through Wonderland on Anna’s website and check out her latest collection. New web shop specials and web exclusives will be introduced to the site in the near future as well.
