Scotsman.com's New Music Blog on Scotland’s radar – Under the Radar

Sept. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Edinburgh, UK -- Drawing on the talents of writers and photographers from all the main music scenes in Scotland, Under the Radar now attracts around 5,000 monthly visitors.

Through a strong presence on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, Under the Radar has become the new buzz blog for anyone interested in music north of the border.

Updated on a daily basis with band profiles, interviews, gig previews and MP3s, the blog is a readymade portal for the nation's burgeoning music community.

And in recent months, Under the Radar has branched out into a mini-site framework, with a community forum, a gig calendar, regular podcasts and editorial discussions.

A team of Under the Radar writers also covered T in the Park and in the process delivered Scotland’s first ever Twitter-driven collaborative festival blog.

Scotsman.com journalist and Under the Radar editor, Nick Mitchell, said: “Scotland’s music scene really is thriving at the moment, and we’re coming across great new bands every week.

“We want to promote new music without being too promotional - our first priority is always going to be our readers. We want them to trust our judgment, so we take time over the selection process and seek out the acts we believe in.

“Having said that, the bands and artists we feature seem to appreciate the boost to their profile, and a highlight for us was when one band, Small Town Boredom, were offered a record deal a couple of hours after appearing on the blog.”

The blog, which was launched in March 2009, builds on The Scotsman's monthly newspaper column of the same name.
