The InspeCaps 150 is a stand-alone vision inspection system that automatically inspects and rejects all common defects found on two-piece capsules. The system boasts the latest vision technology for inspecting capsules including capsule ends and a fast, un-manned operation that can move 1 million tablets in a single working shift. The machine is also the only machine on the market that can inspect opaque, translucent and transparent capsules.

Machine operation:
From the hopper the capsules are fed into a bowl feeder which lines up the capsules and puts them onto a conveyor belt in a single line (capsules are secured in place with vacuum). The capsules are inspected with three cameras. The unique system design guarantees all-around inspection. Defective capsules are rejected individually with compressed air and end up in different bins. Good capsules reach the end of the system. Batch and run reports are always available. Operation and set up are password- protected.

The defects that InspeCaps looks for include:
Appearance: spot of specks, split, cracked, telescoped, V-notch, hole, foreign particle
Shape: dent, smashed, bented end, too short or too long, double cap
Color: foreign color, color variation
Print: illegible, partial, absence of print
Filling: empty (on transparent and translucent only)
The machine sensitivity can be easily adjusted to balance capsules end-quality and reject rate.

Main benefits of the InspeCaps:
On average automatic inspection is 20 times faster than manual inspection and it is 100% reliable (all capsules are fully inspected). Other benefits include:
- up to 1 million capsules sorted in one shift  (about an 8-hour day)
- unmanned operation
- inspects all types of capsules
- unique all around inspection of capsule (including ends)
- single capsule rejection
- 21 CFR Part 11, cGMP system
- full IQ/OQ documentation

What makes InspeCaps different from other systems:
The system uses the latest vision technology available. A generic conveyor belt with vacuum transports capsules of all sizes so no expensive tooling is necessary for different sizes. Other capsule inspection systems use drums to transport tablets. Those drums are format dedicated so numerous drums must be purchased to inspect different capsule sizes. This results in high tooling cost and lengthy change over operations for those systems.

The InspeCaps 150 has other unique features that are new to the market. The most important is the 360-degree inspection: The system performs a true all-around inspection (including the capsule ends). Other capsule inspection systems cannot inspect the capsule ends. The InspeCaps 150 is also the only system to inspect opaque, transparent or translucent tablets (full or empty).

About Proditec:
Most pharmaceutical companies are using Proditec systems to automatically sort their solid dose products at high speed. Proditec Inc. serves North America and is located in the Philadelphia area. Other applications include tablet inspection and NIR inspection.
