The Student Lighting Designer for 2009 is

This competition, held annually, allows students to gain valuable knowledge about the lighting industry, whilst using their creative skills to develop new lighting products.

Aug. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Sponsored by a number of big industry names: Energy Saving Trust, Spearmark International Dar Lighting Ltd, Total Lighting Magazine, Philips, OSRAM, ACID and The Lighting Association.

16 finalists were chosen from over 500 entries. Working prototypes were presented to a panel of esteemed Judges.

New for 2009 was the introduction of a special award for Best Children’s design, sponsored by Spearmark International Ltd

Children's Student Lighting Designer 2009   
Faye Whitear, Coventry University with a children's table light called Nuno   

Second Place
Chris Natt, Brunel Universitywith a table light called Stimuli Light 3.0      

Third Place   
Fergus Taylor, Buckinghamshire New University with a table light called Poised      
Philips Award   
Catherine Gibbins, Nottingham Trent University with a table light called tom dick and harry. Catherine also was awarded best flatwork.      

Chris Natt, Brunel University with a table light called Stimuli Light 3.0   

Highly Commended   
Bo Liang, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design   with a table light called Floating work lamp
Cristiana Ionescu, Buckinghamshire New University with a ceiling light called No. 8
James Griffiths, Aston University with a table light called  Hub

The awards were presented by Dids Macdonald from ACID (anti copying in design) Ltd.
