Small Town Boy Makes Big Name at Red Bull HIP HOP Producer Battle?

A stunned crowd at The Metro in Chicago quickly rallies behind the shy, modest country boy producer from North Carolina at the Red Bull Big Tune Producer battle. John McCall known as J-Mac made some new fans but more importantly, made a name.

Aug. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- 6'6", lanky, white, country boy...the next big thing in Hip Hop production...what?  Martin Luther King wished for a day when we would not be judged by the color of our skin, but let's face it, when an unsuspecting John McCall aka J-Mac walked up on stage in front of a crowd of 1500+ to compete in the Red Bull Big Tune Producer Battle he could distinctly hear the murmurs, "Who's this white boy?"

He's heard it all before, besides, J-Mac seemed too pre-occupied to worry about murmurs when the sounds of butterflies in chaos filled his stomach.  What could best be described as an "8 Mile" style producer battle at The Metro in Chicago was about to begin.  His first competitor a Red Bull Producer battle veteran, "Illa Noize."  For those unfamiliar with a producer battle format; the winners are determined by the crowd.  So Mr. McCall's first order of business was to get the crowd behind him.  When J-Mac pressed play a brief silence from the crowd held such a weight of expectancy that you could feel the air rush out of the room.  Then the beat dropped...

If astonishment made a sound then it made one at The Metro.  When the beat stopped the crowd cheered in appreciation of Hip Hop production prowess and in relief as if to say "I'm glad he's good." J-Mac breathed a sigh of relief as well, taking the victory and moving on to the next round.

No rest for the weary.  The next contender was "Nascent" whose ability had landed him placements with 50 Cent's G-Unit.  A video tells a million words, the link is below.

Round after round, win after win, the beat maker from North Carolina became the crowd favorite.  As a producer signed with Orlando based Fourth Quarter Entertainment, he was certainly living up to the company motto, "The Fourth Quarter is NOW."

In the final round it was a toe to toe battle against a talented "J-Rell."  From the balcony across the stage it was like watching a pendulum swing as one producer would gain the crowds favor then the other producer would win it back.  At the end when host Vitamin D asked the crowd to choose the winner their answer was a unanimous "One more Song!" A testament to J-Mac and J-Rell who had both electrified the crowd.  In the end J-Mac played a beat that any emcee would die for and J-Rell played a drumbeat masterpiece that any producer could appreciate.

The trophy went to J-Rell but you see no head hanging in the Fourth Quarter camp. You will be seeing J-Mac in Atlanta in October for the Red Bull finals and Fourth Quarter Entertainment will make sure you hear him on all your electronic devices.  As the competition ended Michael "GoldenFleece" Ramsey (Music Director/CEO Fourth Quarter Entertainment) watched as two young ladies ran up to J-Mac and asked him to sign their CD.  The shy country boy looked over at Ramsey and said "I'm not used to this," Ramsey simply said "You will J...you will."
