Top Landscape Designers Named - Designer of the Year Award
The Assocation of Professional Landscape Designers announced with winners of it annual awards. APLD is an international organization with over 1,300 members. www.apld.org to locate a designer in your area.
Landscape designs in five categories were submitted for this year’s program – residential, non-residential, small gardens, planting design and specialty project. The criteria used to evaluate submissions included originality and creativity, functionality of design, effective integration of plants and hardscapes, relationship to site, project impact, technical merit and planting design.
The APLD Landscape Design Award “Designer of the Year” was bestowed upon Margie Grace of Grace Design Associates in Santa Barbara, Calif. She also won a Gold Award in the residential design category.

Gold Award: Specialty Project – Andy Sturgeon, Andy Sturgeon Landscapes and Garden Design, Brighton, United Kingdom. – “Cancer Research, UK. RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2007.”
Merit Award: Planting Design – Amelia B. Lima, APLD, Amelia B. Lima & Associates, San Diego, Calif. – “Front Gate Garden.”
Merit Award: Residential Design – Barry Block and David Barnes, Barry Block Landscape Design & Contracting, Inc., East Moriches, N.Y. – “Osaki Residence.”
Merit Awards: Residential Design – James Doyle, James Doyle Design Associates, LLC, Greenwich, Conn. – “KMP Residence.”
Merit Awards: Residential Design – William Ripley, APLD, Architectural Landscape Design, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio – “Middendorff Residence.”
Merit Award: Residential Design – Melissa Clark, APLD, Landscape Projects, Inc., Bethesda, Md. – “Collins Garden.”
Merit Award: Residential Design – Patrick Zaremba, Zaremba and Company, Davisburg, Mich. – “Quarton.”

The judging panel was comprised of well known experts in the field including Robin Templar Williams, APLD, Gregory Pierceall, Andrew Wilson, C. Colston Burrell and Norman Booth.
The Association of Professional Landscape Designers is an international organization representing over 1,300 members in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and other countries. Its goal is to advance landscape design as an independent profession and to promote the recognition of landscape designers as highly qualified, dedicated professionals.
