“Tinker Bell” Earns Nomination from Imagen Awards

July 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Former TV newscaster Lonnie Lardner’s hardcore and inspiring documentary,
“Angel in the Hood” earned a nomination for “Best Documentary for TV” by the Imagen Awards Foundation last week.

“Angel in the Hood” is the real-life story of two Latina party girls from a gang-infested Los Angeles neighborhood, and their deep-rooted spiritual  devotion for Peter Pan’s “Tinker Bell.” Lardner, a former TV News Reporter for Fox-11, KABC, KCBS and KTLA, followed the story for nearly three years. “It grabbed a hold of me and wouldn’t let go,” the first-time filmmaker said.

The documentary has been selected to show in a number of industry film festivals, and won “Best Domestic Film” at Utah’s “Foursite Film Festival” in 2008.

“Angel in the Hood” was also selected for the coveted $5000 “Finishing Funds Grant” by The Women in Film Foundation, and spotlighted at the recent WIF “2009 Crystal and Lucy Awards” last month, which honored industry veterans Holly Hunter, Jennifer Aniston, and producer/director Catherine Hardwicke.

Lardner shot most of the documentary herself, hiring camera crews when possible. She met the two teenagers at a tough love high school in the San Fernando Valley, supported by her non-profit foundation for inner-city children and teens, “Hope’s Nest.” She discovered Tinker Bell serves as a guardian angel for both girls—who are struggling with abusive lives at home. At first Lardner was puzzled by the girls’ commitment, then enlightened by the facts underneath. She concluded, “It became clear--it’s about a universal search for unconditional love.”
