July 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Metro College in Toronto embraces with open arms the Ontario Second Career program -  making it possible for qualified candidates to retrain in a field with a high job demand.

With the economical recession in bloom, more and more Canadian citizens and residents find themselves laid off and forced to look for new jobs. Regrettably, some people have to settle for jobs that they are overqualified for.

On the other hand, there is an alternative to just settling for lower income jobs: the Second Career program initiated by the Ontario Government in June 2008 http://www.metroc.ca/services/second-career-ontario.shtml

The gist of this program is to offer financial support (up to $28,000) to qualified individuals who have been laid off in the past 4 years. The money would fund the tuition fees, cover the housing, transportation and other expenses for the student to be.
The program was initiated due to a shortage of personnel in certain fields such as Health Care, Road Construction or Power Generation, but came also as a solution to the increasing number of dismissals in the past years in Ontario.

As part of the Second Career program, Metro College in Toronto offers specialized training in the following sectors: accounting and administration, paralegal, statistical analysis system (SAS), personal support work (PSW), software training for engineers, machinists or medical assistance. The courses provide hands-on knowledge and experience, while the career opportunities upon graduation are broad.

“Second career has improved my self esteem … the learning experience at Metro is great. Choosing to be a student again was the best career move for me and I am confident I will get a job in no time” says Millie Jennings - former economist, who is presently enrolled in a SAS course at Metro College.

Metro College - http://www.metroc.ca/ is pleased to contribute in the Second Career program by providing valuable training and making a difference in the lives of many laid-off Ontarians.

Metro College in Toronto is a private adult education college that offers multiple courses and programs in accounting, administration, personal support worker (PSW), paralegal, statistical analysis system (SAS), software training for civil engineers, designers and technologists, software training for CNC master CAM programmers, machinists and mechanical engineers.
