The truth about the Smear Campaign against Ambassador Hope

3 months after I had received the briefing to work on the Africa Program in November 2001, the Smear Campaign was launched by Sunday Mercury in January 2002. They call themselves journalists however, as the BBC confirmed ....

June 11, 2009 - PRLog -- They never check facts, they never give the person they smear the opportunity to respond before they publish and they never balance the smear with other people that are happy. I have only met one journalist out of the 4 that have written smear stories.  The last journalist who acted like a paparazzi bragged about being beaten up and receiving death threats from others they smeared. He was disappointed that he couldn’t make me angry or violent…I told him that I simply prayed for them.
I completely understand that Smear Campaigns are part of modern publishing, I also appreciate that choosing to act for the poorest of the poor on an issue that combines racism, sexism, sex, disease, death, and poverty is going to attract enemies from many groups.  I learnt from Rosa Parks, Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John, Ray Kroc and Barack Obama, all had unique challenges in various decades.  I learnt above all to be self-referred; to appreciate that prejudiced people would choose to believe whatever they wanted to.  And naive people would choose to believe anything they read.

Smear No1: That I was imprisoned for 1 year for fraud.

Fact: I served 6 months for wrongful trading in 1994.  I lost a company when an acquisition deal failed which I could not control or influence.  Any business in a recession; who do not have sufficient to pay all bills when due is ‘wrongfully trading’ which is applicable to 95% of all businesses in the UK. I learnt about the real poverty issues instead of just the symptoms and I also saw the inter-faith model inaction and was able to incorporate this empathy into my work.
Smear No 2: That I skipped the country in 2001.
Fact: I have travelled and worked in 31 countries since1978, it’s a basic function of my role to work with citizens of all countries.

Smear No 3: That 12 people who have contacted them don’t like me.
Fact: I have worked with thousands of people across the world in my 29 year career.
I spoke to an audience of 90,000 on one night, in a football stadium on New Year’s Eve 2009.  I’m not surprised that a few people don’t like me. I have taken on a very tough task, many are fearful; others racist yet more are ignorant about what’s possible.

Smear No 4: A coffee farmer was fearful they wouldn’t get paid!
Fact: 3 coffee farmers were invited to bid for a contract from South Africa. 2 submitted prices and terms and the 3rd supplier reacted to all the things they were fearful could go wrong.  All they had to do was decline to bid.  We deal with suppliers from all over the world; it is always their right to decline to bid or set terms that are uncompetitive.

Smear No 5: That Jessica Pesscatelli has sued the company in court.
Fact: Jessica Pesscatelli is the most selfish woman in America. She made a film, was paid the deposit and then deleted all the files from our website and continued to demand payment.  She has said that she sued the company and yet she has not been able to provide us with court filings submitted to ANY court in America or the world.  When we agree terms with a supplier we agree to go to arbitration in case of any dispute.

Smear No 8: That Blanche Solomon and XX have not been paid.
Fact: XX sent an email and refused to accept their stock certificates. Part of her work was to pack items for the move back to Washington DC and she was present when the moving van arrived and loaded the furniture.  Any supplier or investor with a bona fide claim will be paid as soon as the Company gets paid for its 8 years of development work for Africa.
Every liability of the company is included in the annual accounts which are prepared to GAAP standards to December 31st 2008.
