Behavioral Directions, LLC, an Autism Consulting Firm announces the launch of their new website

April 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Behavioral Directions, LLC an autism consulting company in Herndon, Virginia announces the launch of their new website (http://www.behavioraldirections.com).  This site was updated to provide more comprehensive information and straightforward direction to families with a child identified with an autism spectrum disorder, significant challenging behavior and/or other developmental disability.  Dr. Barbin noted “Parents have a right to effective interventions for their child and they are often overwhelmed by a multitude of proposed treatment options as they navigate the path of service delivery for their child.  It is most important for parents of children with autism and behavior problems to focus their time, energy and resources on interventions that have demonstrated research support, such as those based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.”  Behavioral Directions, LLC is committed to providing evidence-based education and treatment services and uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in their work.  They are often called upon to provide seminars and workshops at the local and national level to promote the welfare of the individuals they serve.

Dr. Jane Barbin, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D), set the mission for Behavioral Directions, LLC to promote best-practice in the local area and beyond through direct client work and interface with community partners.  In 2008 they participated in two walks to benefit individuals with autism, including sharing information at the Autism Speaks “Walk Now for Autism” on the National Mall.  Dr. Barbin’s work as a Board Member of the Association for Science in Autism Treatment (ASAT) (www.asatonline.org) is focused mainly on public relations and outreach to media sources to support and encourage accurate representation of autism treatment research findings to the public.  Often what is known in scientific channels may not get disseminated or represented properly if it is not “dressed up” to be of media interest.  Dr. Barbin stated “Our purpose is to educate parents and professionals on sound, science-based autism treatment and we hope the additional links and supports of our website will help the parents of children with autism and professionals who serve them to increase their knowledge of and access to effective, high quality intervention services.”  As the pool of providers for children with autism grows to meet the present need, it is critical for parents to equip themselves with the skills needed to discern quality providers.  

Christine Crowell, MA, BCBA is a consultant with Behavioral Directions, LLC who is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, a credential important to serving those with autism and implementing ABA procedures.  Like Dr. Barbin, Ms. Crowell also trained in Behavioral Psychology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute and has extensive experience working with children and teens with autism, developmental disabilities and challenging behavior disorders such as self-injury, aggression, and disruptive behaviors.  Together they have over 22 years of combined experienced in the field.  Please visit http://www.behavioraldirections.com for a complete list of services.
