Volkswagen Selects RTI’s Real-Time Messaging Middleware for Driver Assistance ApplicationsRTI Data Distribution Service provides innovative integration solution for Volkswagen’s next generation automotive network design
By: Barbara Stewart Volkswagen’s advanced driver assistance systems must integrate, in real-time, complex environment perception algorithms which require the use of a high-bandwidth network. By contrast, existing in-car networks are focused on low-bandwidth, low-latency command oriented sub-systems, for example for communication between braking systems and the powertrain. RTI Data Distribution Service provides a high-performance messaging infrastructure that allows Volkswagen to ensure real-time prioritization of critical operations and data across its new driver assistance network and the existing in-car control network, in spite of the very different characteristics of the two networks. “We are very excited to be involved in this pioneering work in driver assistance design by an industry leader like Volkswagen,” About RTI Data Distribution Service RTI's high-performance messaging and data distribution software enables the development and integration of distributed applications that require low-latency, high-throughput, high-scalability, deterministic responses and minimal consumption of network, processor and memory resources. RTI meets the unique and demanding requirements of mission-critical real-time systems, including the ability to run in dynamic and autonomous environments and over unreliable or low-bandwidth networks such as wireless and satellite links. RTI middleware was the first to comply with the DDS standards for application programming interface (API) portability and wire interoperability. RTI is the world's leading supplier of DDS-related software and services. About RTI Real-Time Innovations (RTI) provides high-performance infrastructure solutions for the development and integration of distributed real-time applications. RTI’s data distribution, messaging, caching and Complex Event Processing (CEP) capabilities deliver dramatic improvements in latency, throughput and scalability while slashing cost of ownership. A broad range of industries have leveraged the company’s software and design expertise, including defense, intelligence, simulation, industrial control, power generation, transportation, finance, medical and communications. Founded in 1991, RTI is privately held and headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA. For more information, please visit www.rti.com.
