Trade Wings, Inc. Develops New XNet Architecture for Business Intelligence

March 3, 2009 - PRLog -- In response to a growing need for custom business intelligence solutions, Trade Wings, Inc. is restructuring its client portal architecture to seamlessly deliver information to a variety of clients and users. Building upon the success of the company’s XNet portal—which until now delivered only web pages—the new architecture enables data delivery to destinations other than web browsers, such as mobile phones, PDAs, and web service consumers.

An offering of Trade Wings’ telecom professional services business, XNet is a collaboration tool that allows telecommunications manufacturing partners and service providers to view and manage their equipment and parts inventories. It allows them to easily buy, sell, see, and move material throughout their supply ecosystems.

“XNet first generation was a breakthrough service, allowing our customers to maintain visibility of materials in their whole ecosystem,” says business systems manager Ian Saalfield. “The next generation will allow them to leverage that visibility by providing collaborative and integrated planning tools, reuse monitoring, and demand-response capabilities.”

The new software employs the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern to provide two key advantages. First, the application can be built and scaled to match clients’ needs rapidly by managing various components of the system independently. Second, large system changes can be made without disturbing the quality of service clients have come to expect from using the application.

The application will benefit clients by being agile and providing accurate visibility of parts in the open market, making it easier to decide whether to repair or replace equipment. Another benefit is more enhanced views of inventories, which allow clients to make better stock transfer and disposition decisions, such as whether to reuse, resell, or recycle excess inventory.

By separating the portal application into different layers, the MVC architecture allows different data delivery methods and provides a much more flexible, scalable platform that can deliver value quickly and expand in step with the company’s growth.
