The First Edition Of Dubai Comedy Convention Announced

Feb. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- The 3-day festival will feature international comics who are on the frontiers of global comedy. Headlining the opening night will be Omid Djalili, the British/Iranian stand-up comedian and Hollywood celebrity.

The Dubai Comedy Convention is the latest addition to the portfolio of Chillout Productions and will complement the quality Dubai has come to expect from the company behind the Skywards Dubai International Jazz Festival and Abu Dhabi International Jazz Festival.

The patronage of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, as part of their endorsement to Dubai’s exceptional events, comes as a boost to the company’s newly established division, Chillout|Comedy, which will handle the Dubai Comedy Convention and all other comedy-related events throughout the year.

"The idea of producing the Comedy Convention has been brewing in our minds for a while now and we are finally ready,” said Samer Hamadeh, Managing Partner of Chillout|Comedy. “We are privileged to have received the patronage of the DCAA” he adds “and we are excited to see Omid Djalili’s first ever Middle East performance when he hosts the opening night.”

The Dubai Comedy Convention will host shows on the nights of April 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2009 at the Palladium in Dubai Media City, with a total expected attendance of 9000 guests.

The Dubai Comedy Convention will continue Chillout Productions’ legacy of bringing high quality entertainment to the region and to satisfy the appetites of comedy fans in the gulf.

Commenting on his first Middle East appearance, Omid Djalili said “Dubai?! Thought I was going to Mumbai to shoot 'Slumdog Fat Fighters.' I need to speak to my agent!"
