Jan. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- The Bahrain Scrabble League committee unanimously endorsed the four-year ban imposed on one its members.

An inquiry panel formed by the World English-language Scrabble Players Association (Wespa) handed down a guilty verdict on cheating at an international tournament in Malaysia earlier this month.

The committee also urged Wespa to draw up well-defined guidelines on how to deal with offences in future.

Irfan Siddiqui, newly appointed BSL chairman, said, "I'd like to remind everyone that the history of the league, its legacy and accomplishments in Bahrain over 25 years as well as the rest of the Gulf is too meritorious to be tarnished by what happened."

In other matters, a new BSL committee was formed with Victor Ikawa joining incumbents Imtiaz Ahmed, Roy Kietzman and Mujeeb Rahman.

The committee pledged to re-energise BSL with a qualifying competition for the 19th Gulf Scrabble Championship, taking place June 4-6 in Bahrain.

The GSC is, in turn, the qualifier for the eight entrants from the Gulf going to the 10th World Scrabble Championship. The WSC venue has yet to be decided.
