Grantham University Experiences Growth, Heavily Recruiting Personnel Despite Economic Downturn

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national unemployment rate in November 2008 climbed to 6.7 percent, but the unemployment rate among college graduates was just 3.1 percent.

Additionally, the economic decline and rising unemployment rate make the military an attractive option for many individuals. Grantham University has served military and veteran students for nearly 60 years.

In a recent survey by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, private colleges reported that many students are finding it more difficult to secure the private loans needed to help pay for tuition. In addition to providing guaranteed employment, active duty military service members benefit from the availability of tuition assistance (TA) funding provided under the voluntary education programs in the Department of Defense. TA funding provides eligible service members up to $4,500 each fiscal year for attainment of an undergraduate or graduate degree.

"Online education is an ideal solution for a demanding military career or work schedule," adds Wandler. "Many military members and others in the private sector are deciding that now is a good time to pursue their higher education goals."

In today's economy, the job market is extremely competitive. Those with college degrees typically do better in a recession. Regardless of one's standing, a college degree is still highly regarded by employers.

"Demand for higher education generally rises during economic downturns," said Wandler. "Grantham University is seeing this trend first-hand, and we're actively seeking the right personnel to help us with our growth and ensure the success of our students."
