As Traditional Publishers’ Close Door, Co-operative Ones Open

With traditional publishers doors closing, more cooperative publishers doors open. Ecademy Press tells how there is still hope for aspiring authors.

Jan. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Established business authors with book sales of over 100,000 are now being turned away by traditional publishing houses as they batten down the commissioning hatches further, with some even having their contracts rescinded, according to leading co-operative publisher Ecademy Press.

A recent statement by Ecademy Press reveals that at the end of last year, five published business authors, all with several books in print and three with sales in excess of 100,000 copies, approached them after having their new book ideas turned down by their traditional publisher. One author revealed that they had been offered a publishing contract but that it had then been rescinded.

Subsequently, all five authors will now be publishing via Ecademy Press and launching their books in the first half of 2009. Ecademy Press co-founder Mindy Gibbins-Klein believes that whilst the halt on commissioning by the big publishers may seem like bad news for authors, it is in fact a blessing in disguise as the benefits of co-operative publishing far outweigh those offered by traditional publishers.

“Traditional publishers are becoming much more risk-averse than ever and some like Houghton Mifflin have stopped commissioning completely. This is all great news for authors who want to see their books out quickly, make more money, keep their rights and control the entire process”, explains Gibbins-Klein, also known as The Book Midwife, who has personally helped over 100 business authors to write and publish their books.

Ecademy Press has published a number of best-selling business titles including BusinessWise, Bruce King’s How To Double Your Sales In Six Weeks and Simon Zutshi’s Property Magic, which still remains a top property title on Amazon.

“Cooperative publishers like Ecademy Press really are saving the day for these highly talented authors of excellent, quality business and personal development books that otherwise would not be published”, says Gibbins-Klein.
