5 Holiday Party Mishaps & Solutions

Dec. 11, 2008 - PRLog -- Holiday entertaining blunders like a spilled drink on the new carpeting can easily embarrass a guest and cause the host to panic.  This season, Weiman Products (www.weiman.com) is helping holiday party hosts not miss a beat by identifying the popular holiday party blunders and quick clean-up solutions.  

#1 Holiday Party Blunder – A drink is spilled on the carpeting.  

Solution:  Prepare an inexpensive all-purpose solution prior to the party by filling a clean spray bottle with warm water.  Add a few drops of dish soap and shake.  If a spill should occur on carpeting, clothing, tablecloths, couches or virtually any surface, spray the cleaning solution on the affected area and blot with a clean cloth.  Repeat if the stain is stubborn.    

#2 Holiday Party Blunder – Wax from a candle centerpiece spills on the tablecloth.  

Solution: Use a candle wax remover that is guaranteed not to stain or damage furniture like Weiman Wax Away.  Or, place an ice cube wrapped in plastic over the wax to harden it. Then, remove the majority of wax by gently scraping it with a non-stick spatula.

#3 Holiday Party Blunder – A drink glass leaves a white ring on wood furniture.  

Solution: White rings on furniture normally appear from moisture trapped beneath the surface. Sometimes as the absorbed moisture evaporates the    white mark or ring will disappear. Therefore, wait at least 24 hours before treating the watermark.  If the watermark remains, use Weiman Lemon Polish with 0000 steel wool and rub the stained area to remove the mark. Always rub in the direction of the wood grain.  Contact a refinisher if your wood finish has gray or dark rings.  The darker the color is, the deeper the damage.

#4 Holiday Party Blunder – Butter, grease or oil based food falls onto the leather sofa.  

Solution: Blot away excess butter, oil or grease with a clean, dry cloth. Do not wipe, wash or apply water as that might cause the stain to spread. Leave the spot alone and the stain should dissipate into the leather.  

Once the stain dissipates, use a high-quality leather cleaner that contains natural oils like Weiman Leather Wipes.  Avoid using cleaning fluid, shoe cream, saddle soap or mink oil.  

#5 Holiday Party Blunder – A glass of wine spills on the granite countertops.  

Solution:  Blot up the wine from the granite surface immediately so it does not etch or dull the stone’s surface.  Use a non-abrasive cleaner that does not contain lemon, vinegar or other acids.  Also, be sure your guests are using coasters on the granite, especially for alcoholic or citrus based drinks.
