Nov. 25, 2008 - PRLog -- DS, the market leader in UK public libraries and archives and part of the Axiell Library Group AB, (www.ds.co.uk) announced it has completed work on enabling their customers to export data from their library management system (LMS) into smartsm, the UK’s premier stock performance improvement solution from Bridgeall Libraries. (www.smartsm.com).

Jim Burton, Managing Director at DS explains, “Management Information Systems like ArteMIS perform a different role to evidence based stock management systems such as smartsm.  ArteMIS provides factual evidence about the performance and usage of our OpenGalaxy LMS and systems such as smartsm help libraries improve their performance and to make intelligent purchasing and stock management decisions based on the evidence from their LMS.  With this in mind we wanted to make it easy for our customers to seamlessly use our LMS and smartsm together.”

Our LMS now seamlessly outputs management information designed specifically for use within the smartsm system.  The result will be a seamless information flow for library managers who can make time and cost saving stock decisions using smartsm.

Ian Downie, Commercial Manager at Bridgeall Libraries, added, “We have a growing number of mutual customers with DS including Bristol and South Lanarkshire who have been using smartsm for some time and Middlesbrough, who have recently signed up to smartsm. We are delighted to be working closely with DS, helping our customers automate the extraction of data into our powerful smartsm solution.”

DS and Bridgeall Libraries are also planning to work together to deliver workflow improvements and time-saving efficiencies later in the stock management process.  Once stock management plans are in place, staff need to identify and find large numbers of stock items and then weed or move them. This is a labour-intensive job, so DS and Bridgeall Libraries are evaluating how the DS RFID solution, known as DS-iTAG can be used to save time during the process of stock identification, stock moving and weeding.
