PRLog -- Sandro Calvani is the director of UNICRI, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, an organization that assists intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Mr. Calvani took over the leadership of UNICRI in July 2007 and is depended on to oversee all of the organizations operations, analyze and implement procedure, develop initiatives, provide consultancy, conduct investigations and liaise with various branches of government. Mr. Calvani has extensive experience in a wide range of criminal and social issues, particularly in the fields of drug control and crime prevention. He joined the United Nations in 1992 as country director of the UNODC office in Bolivia, during which time, he developed the world’s largest drug control program and was responsible for UN aspects of drug control coordination in 29 countries and territories in the region. In 2002, he was elected chairman of the United Nations regional working group to contain the AIDS epidemic for the thirty countries of South East Asia and the Pacific. Additionally, Mr. Calvani was an assistant professor at the University of Genoa, is the author of 18 books and more than 600 articles on sustainable development, narcotics trafficking and transnational organized crime and was a visiting scientist at Harvard University.
