Oct. 6, 2008 - PRLog -- Forschung Direkt is proud to announce that the eagerly anticipated version 2.0 of Kiax has been released. Kiax is a softphone with a simple and comfortable user interface that uses Asterisk’s IAX2 protocol. Softphones are a very popular today among many businessmen and private users, who can carry both phone and contacts with them on their laptop to use voip services all around the world to make cheap or free phone calls.

Kiax has been built for the three most popular platforms, Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. The Kiax team wanted to be sure that the release is stable and ready for everyday use, therefore the development team is still working on providing more features in the near future. Among these are the ability to create multiple accounts, translations and call features like transfers and conferencing. In the long term Kiax will support the SIP protocol, XMPP chat and video calls.

About Kiax:
The Kiax project started in early 2004 due to the demand for a user-friendly, free and open softphone. Kiax has been downloaded by more than 60,000 users, and is included in many popular and major Linux distributions. Despite its proven stability, the development of the first release had reached a point where further modifications and customisation became difficult. That is when Forschung-Direkt, together with MIXvoip and encouraged by Corpoinvest, restarted the Kiax development. The Kiax 2.0 release is a complete re-write of the original software and provides a more flexible architecture for future modifications.

The interoperability and integration with third party applications has been greatly improved. Kiax supports a wide range of possibilities to enable click2dial and integration in CRM or web applications. Several additional tools, such as add-ons for Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Outlook, will be released in the very near future.

The entire source code is published under an open source license on SourceForge.net (http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/kiax). Here you will find forums where you can ask questions, and give feedback and suggestions to our development team.
