Arnold Schwarzenegger Signs Ban on Bingo

Oct. 4, 2008 - PRLog -- The governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill that bans charities from allowing players play electronic or online bingo games, preserving Indian tribes' monopoly on slot machines.

However as a compromise to pass the bill, charities will be allowed to run bingo games simultaneously at multiple sites by using audio and video equipment.

It’s debated that the new law will mostly hurt smaller, community-based charities as they will suffer a tremendous loss from their fundraisers.

Doug Bergman, president and chief executive of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Sacramento, says the law serves the interests of powerful tribes over charities.

The “Terminator” terminated the matter by signing the bill by Sen. Gil Cedillo of Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The Governor’s decision doesn’t coma as a surprise as the passing of the Ban would have eventually affected the States business and income from other forms of gambling.
