Sept. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp.  today announced that Savant Systems, LLC has selected Cypress's CYRF6936 proprietary 2.4-GHz wireless solution for its ROSIE RF remote controls. The ROSIE remotes use the robust Cypress wireless technology to overcome limitations of infrared, including line of sight requirements and range of less than 10 meters. The CYRF6936 wireless device operates flawlessly anywhere within a 50-meter range, regardless of sight lines, allowing end users to move around the house freely. The ROSIE remotes also use Cypress PSoC® mixed-signal arrays, and the accompanying wireless receivers use enCoRe™ II microcontrollers.

ROSIE remotes feature "Hot Launch" and other programmable buttons that provide easy navigation and browsing in tandem with Savant's On-Screen Display. Cypress's ultra-low power wireless technology enhances both convenience and environmental concerns by prolonging battery life. In addition, the industry-leading interference immunity of Cypress's AgileHID™ protocol allows the remotes to operate uninterrupted in the home environment, where the 2.4-GHz spectrum is crowded with signals from Wi-Fi, microwaves, cordless phones and other devices.

"Cypress's Wireless, PSoC and enCoRe technologies have helped Savant redefine the remote control, delivering unmatched convenience and functionality to our customers," said Victor Saverino, Director of Product Management for Savant.  "Cypress technology enables reliable connectivity, wide range, long battery-life and unique ergonomics that end-users desire in a remote control."

"The days of trying to point your boring, boxy IR remote at just the right spot on the TV are coming to a close, as innovative entertainment system makers like Savant reinvent the remote control," said Leon Tan, product manager of Cypress's Remote Control Solutions. "Cypress's complete remote control solutions deliver the compact designs, stellar battery life and RF freedom required by this new generation of remotes."

A PSoC chip controls the 2.4-GHz radio transceiver while measuring battery voltage in the stylish and compact circular remotes. The remotes' wireless receivers are integrated within Savant's controllers and control panel coffee tables, and use an enCoRe II chip to manage the interface between the radio and Savant's host system. Both Cypress controller devices have programmable capabilities to integrate a broad range of functions, simplifying the design process and reducing component count.

About Cypress Wireless Solutions
Cypress's CYRF6936 proprietary 2.4-GHz wireless solution delivers an unparalleled combination of performance and cost versus competing wireless technologies. The DSSS-based technology is robust to interference and enables superior operational range. It operates between 1.8 and 5.25 volts, using advanced power-saving techniques to extend battery life in devices such as wireless mice and remotes. It also incorporates the user-friendly KISSBind™ feature, which enables a user to intuitively link a wireless peripheral to the desired host by simply bringing them in close proximity with one another, thus lowering customer support calls.

PSoC -- Because Change Happens
PSoC devices employ a highly configurable system-on-chip architecture for embedded control design, offering a flash-based equivalent of a field-programmable ASIC without lead-time or NRE penalties. PSoC devices integrate configurable analog and digital circuits, controlled by an on-chip microcontroller, providing both enhanced design revision capability and component count savings. They include up to 32 Kbytes of Flash memory, 2 Kbytes of SRAM, an 8x8 multiplier with 32-bit accumulator, power and sleep monitoring circuits, and hardware I2C communications.

The flexible PSoC resources allow designers to future-proof their products by enabling firmware-based changes during design, validation, production, and in the field. The unique PSoC flexibility shortens design cycle time and allows for late-breaking feature enhancements. All PSoC devices are also dynamically reconfigurable, enabling designers to morph internal resources on-the-fly, utilizing fewer components to perform a given task.

Easy to use development tools enable designers to select configurable library elements for analog functions such as amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, filters and comparators and digital functions such as timers, counters, PWMs, SPI and UARTs. The PSoC family's analog features include rail-to-rail inputs, programmable gain amplifiers and up to 14-bit ADCs with exceptionally low noise, input leakage and voltage offset.

A single PSoC device can integrate as many as 100 peripheral functions saving customers design time, board space and power consumption while improving system quality. Customers can save as much as $10 in system costs. Learn more about PSoC products at www.cypress.com/psoc and receive free online training at www.cypress.com/psoctraining."
