Sept. 8, 2008 - PRLog -- ARISE will conduct a memorable staff training workshop entitled, CHOICES: Drop It at the Door with the staff of the Washington D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services. This two-day workshop is an innovative training that teaches participants working with at-risk populations how to handle anger and stress through making better choices in their work and personal lives. The training gives participants a solid understanding of how each one of us can make the choice to drop home- and work-related anger, stress, negativity, and frustration “at the door.” This intense anger and stress management workshop not only prepares participants to deal with difficult populations, but also teaches them how to avoid daily confrontation and altercations by using proven techniques and strategies demonstrated, understood, and practiced in this unique CHOICES training.

The ARISE CHOICES: Drop It At The Door training program has been extremely successful in the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, where it has been conducted and evaluated in various residential facilities across the state. ARISE is expanding its CHOICES program to other government agencies such as police, corrections and probations departments that have a need to train those who interact with difficult and often dangerous populations on a daily basis.

“The reality is that the staff at my facility who went through the CHOICES: Drop It at the Door program a year ago are still here, as opposed to those who didn’t get trained and are now long gone,” said Jasir Diab, facility administrator at Palm Beach Florida Juvenile Correctional Facility. “I feel there is a direct correlation here and I’m thrilled to be working with ARISE again this year.”

The Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) provides citywide services for delinquency prevention and control. Specifically, DYRS provides security, supervision, and residential and community support services for committed and detained juvenile offenders and juvenile Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS). Clients are engaged in a variety of educational, therapeutic, recreational, and cultural enrichment programs.

For over 20 years, ARISE has operated as a developer and publisher of Life Management Skills curricula and staff training programs. Designed originally to reach at-risk, incarcerated youth in detention centers and secure facilities, ARISE is also utilized as a powerful prevention tool for teenagers and young adults.  ARISE is particularly appropriate for youth with special requirements, limited reading and/or writing ability.  It has been successfully used for over 20 years in the Miami-Dade Florida School System, and in over 100 Washington DC schools, organizations and secure facilities.

Since ARISE was established over two decades ago, we have trained and certified over 5,000 instructors who have taught almost 4,000,000 documented hours of ARISE life skills lessons in Florida alone. ARISE is also being used in Canada, Jamaica, England, Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, New Zealand, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, The Kingdom of Bahrain, and Central Asia. The ARISE curricula is presently being translated into Kazakh and Russian for use with orphans.
