Velvet Wins Gift Retailer of the Year South and South East 2008

Sept. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- Now in their sixth year, The Greats are established as the premier awards event of the year, bringing together the entire industry for a night of celebration. The Awards recognise the phenomenal contribution that retailers, both large and small, make to the success of the gift industry.

After entering many weeks ago, the team had a tense wait until May 22nd, when the winners were announced at a glamorous awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The glittering black tie event included a champagne reception, dinner, awards, entertainment and dancing.

Emma Harrop, Co-director of Velvet, said: “We are delighted to have won such a prestigious award within our industry, especially after winning our 'Best Independent Retailer' 2007 award in the Brighton and Hove Business Awards last September. We have a great team of 30 who deserve to be recognised for their commitment to retail and Velvet.”

Velvet were also finalists for Best Retail Display and Retail Employee of the Year for their Area Manager and Buyer - Karen Giles, beating hundreds of national entrants.

Velvet’s extensive range of furniture, home interiors, lighting, gifts, clothes and accessories are always beautifully displayed in their bright and welcoming shops, with window displays that stop people in their tracks. This, along with their excellent customer service assured Velvet their well deserved Award.

Even as the company grows it remains a friendly family business at heart. Velvet Stores Ltd - which was set up in Brighton nearly 8 years ago by Emma and Nick Harrop and Iris Draper (Emma's Mum) - started with gifts and accessories and over the years has expanded to three shops in Brighton and Hove, with their fourth opening in mid-June.
