Aug. 25, 2008 - PRLog -- Parents who want something different for their children to read and something to keep those little hands busy cannot go wrong by exploring the story and fiber art illustrations of Kim Chatel’s new children’s book “Rainbow Sheep” (ISBN 9781933090849, Guardian Angel Publishing, 2008).

Genevieve is a shepherdess who finds a sad, pale rainbow. He's sad because he's bored. Genevieve, although always alone with her sheep, is never bored because she has a big imagination. She tells funny stories to the rainbow, until he cries happy tears. These colorful tears change her sheep from muddy grey to all the rainbow’s colors.

Author Kim Chatel based “Rainbow Sheep” on a bedtime story she told her daughter, Genevieve. Chatel’s book teaches children that if they use their imaginations, they need never be bored. Beyond imagination, the book encourages creativity with several pages of instructions for creating needle-felting art.

“Rainbow Sheep” is completely illustrated with needle-felting, the first book ever to be illustrated in such a unique style. Chatel sculpts wool into felted pictures that provide a colorful and textured look, and lend a fairy-tale feel (no pun intended) to the story. Children will want to reach out and touch them. Children can also learn to needle-felt with the instructions that follow the story. And if customers order “Rainbow Sheep” from Chatel’s website www.kimchatel.com, they can choose a bonus gift of a felt sheep made by Chatel or a kit to make a felt sheep of their own.

“Rainbow Sheep” is a hit with children, parents, and teachers looking for something original and imaginative. Chatel is currently taking her desire to encourage imagination to the next level with her writing contest for kids at her website. The child who sends the funniest story to tell the sad rainbow could win a needle-felted rainbow sheep music box! The contest deadline is September 30, 2008. Chatel wants children to remember her books as a happy time in their childhood and with such a positive message and interesting illustrations, it’s hard to imagine “Rainbow Sheep” will not be treasured and enjoyed by children for generations to come.
