Follow on Google News | Bear Bones Outing for Emerging ArtistIllustrator and animator Sean Morris will hold his first solo exhibition Bear Bones at the Cracked Gallery, Behind the Monkey, Highgate, Perth, Australia from August 8 to 24, 2008.
By: Two Dozen The Curtin University graduate, known for his alternate world of flying pensioners, bearded messianic men and kids in Judas Priest T-shirts, has become increasingly hot property since winning the The Clothspeg Project art competition in December 2007. This year, Sean has exhibited his work nine times through group shows in Perth and Melbourne, although Bear Bones will be his first solo exhibition. “Bear Bones will feature a collection of completely new drawings, created over the last couple of months,” says Sean. “I’ll be tackling subjects including ‘80s hair metal, woodland creatures and weird topographical forms. The title of the show comes from the stripped-back approach I’ve taken with the work, which mainly consists of pen drawings on paper and board - and also from the fact that I like bears (and puns) a lot.” The Cracked Gallery, where the exhibition will take place, is part of Behind the Monkey, a retail outlet and creative workspace featuring Australian-designed and handcrafted jewellery, art and gifts. “We’re really thrilled to be supporting Sean’s first solo outing,” says Elaine MacLeod, Behind the Monkey’s owner. “It has been great to see Sean go from strength to strength in such a short time since focusing on illustration only two years ago, including being published in Australia and overseas and creating work for clients including Campaign Brief and Perth band Kill Teen Angst. My hope is that in creating the opportunity for him to do a solo show, Sean’s work will gain the wider audience it deserves.” Bear Bones will open on Friday August 8 and continue until Sunday August 24. Entry is free.
