For the blessing of its one of the fabulous inventions, mobile phone, establishing a communication overseas is not at all a factor now. In the 21st century, communication technology has tremendously developed. In a developed country like UK, people have seen a massive development in communication networks. Here in this article, we will discuss about the various mobile phone networks in UK.

If we look back at the history of mobile phone networks in UK then we will find that there were basically four mobile phone network operator in the UK – Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile. Among them, Vodafone and O2 are the oldest two. Now all the mobile operators work either in 2nd or 3rd generation digital networks. The first operator that was provided 3rd generation network coverage in UK, which is known as 3G network, was “Three”. This new generation 3G network offers some additional data services, which include high-tech entertainment, video calling and location-based services such as local maps and traffic services. Apart from that, there are also some additional network providers who work on "virtual" networks, which use the T Mobile networks, such as Virgin Mobiles, Value Telecom and Fresh. There are huge differences between the digital network and virtual network operators, even in their services' rates.

In the UK, there are some virtual network operators which are country's major mobile phone network companies, but are being sold under a different name. Such as the Virgin and Value Telecom which both fall under the T-mobile name and the OneTel's is being re-branded from Vodafone. Here we are discussing about some of the topmost mobile phone network in UK.

Vodafone

In this modern age, Vodafone is one of the major mobile phone network providers in the UK. It provides both the analogue and GSM networks in the country. It now hold the top position terms of the number of subscribers.

O2

It is originally known as 'Cellnet' in UK. According to a report, it stands just one step behind of Vodafone in terms of the number of subscribers. O2 works on both analogue and GSM digital networks. Now owned by a German firm, O2 has been slipping behind in the subscriber race, and in the coverage stakes.

Orange

It works on GSM 1800 network within the UK. It has made a superior position in the minds of UK's people for its outstanding service and network coverage. When it comes to the customer service and technical innovation it has also proved its superiority.

Three

"3" or “Three” is one of the latest additions in the UK's mobile phone network. It is currently owned by the Hutchison Telecommunication International. This elegant mobile phone network provides 3G UTMS mobile service in the UK. It has become popular for its outstanding service and its pricing is also very affordable.

T-mobile

It works on the GSM 1800 network and is also sold as Virgin Mobile and Value Telecom in UK.
